This world has gotten too politcally correct, no wonder the work place is becoming ******.
Political correctness is there to help people feel comfortable its all too often used as a bad term. It has its place and derogatory remarks is one of those places. Words are offensive and hurtful when the meaning and the vitriol behind it is obvious.
As a gay man myself I would rather have people stand with me if I have to call out a dickhead (calling a person a *** or a situation gay is a dickish thing to do.) Than do it on my own which is hard, upsetting and can be very lonely if no one else stands with you.
I hope that more stand with me and others who are openly gay than don't.
I hope that we, the community as a whole, can look past the idea of 'its only trolling' and block and report people like this for bullying to CCP. |

I hope that we, the community as a whole, can look past the idea of 'its only trolling' and block and report people like this for bullying to CCP. by saying that people SHOULD be sensitive because of political correctness will get hardly anyone to stand with you. political correctness is a ******* joke, hands down. regardless of background, if your weak and appear weak, in the real world, your going to be kicked to the curve. being gay doesn't entitle you to special treatment, regardless of your views. I would give you some respect if you didn't expect or want everyone to treat you like a child.
A) I am not a child nor would I wish to be treated like one.
B) I did not ask people to be sensitive I asked people to stand up/speak out against people who use derogatory terms in an obviously mean way.
C) Being Gay does not make one weak if anything it makes you stronger and more able to stand up to idiots.
D) I don't want special treatment I wish to be treated like any other person and mocked for my inability to hit someone with a gun not for my preference to have sex with them.
E) Get some Gay friends and talk to them you'll find in general we're very nice people who just want to be able to play our games without being mocked for being who we are, just as you shouldn't call a black person n****r or an asian person "slanty eyed". I promise you we don't want to have sex with you if thats what you're worried about, I guarantee that.
F) Back to your mums basement Troll. ;-) |

Ok then, my view is that anyone who wants others to go by political correctness is a child. B. that wont happen often, people are going to say hurtful things and even if your offended by them, they wont care if its not directed towards you. C. im not saying being gay is making you weak, im not homophobic, im saying your appearing weak because your asking for people to stand by your side when your trying to fight something. D. wanting people to stop using terms that offend you is wanting special treatment. E. I have a gay uncle, I love him and respect him, im not homophobic in any way nor will I ever be, if your uncomfortable because of what people say (even though its not directed towards you), then good luck out there. i don't care what or who you ****, but if you try anything on me, your going to get in a fight. F. we don't have a basement, and im 18 so of course I still live with my parents, im barely in my 1st semester of college after I graduated last spring.
I would speak with your Uncle then and ask him how he would react if someone in the street shouts F*G! at him or his partner. Someone shouting that in a game is a similar situation, when you are trying to live your life and someone says horrible things about you in a blatantly nasty manner its a jarring horrible experience.
I have had it a few times in the street, I have even been attacked for holding a boyfriends hand in the street so sometimes if I ask reasonably that people try to understand what it can be like for a gay person to live openly I would hope they would. I am glad that the majority in this thread understand and have stood with me either in giving tacit support to the sentiment of the thread or even liking mine and others posts.
I like to think of playing games as a fun pastime, but if I come in for abuse from someone for being myself, I am who I am after all ;-) then meh I'll mute them and mock them in open channel and report them if they send me hateful messages, then move on to the next round.
Maybe you are correct about the term 'political correctness' though its too loaded a term for knuckle dragging numptys who read and listen to too much right wing media. I'll call it something else then...
How about 'not being a prick'?
Good luck in college, may it open your mind a bit more.

While I agree with the meaning behind your comment I would say that its not a choice. |

my uncle doesn't care about insults, he knows that people cant harm him by words. its called maturity. im may come off as a prick but its not my problem. don't like my attitude, don't care.
Sorry I did not mean for you to think I was calling you a prick, I do not believe you are one I was saying those who use homophobic insults are pricks.
While your uncle may not care about verbal abuse, not tackling the verbal abuse in a game leads to a culture of permissiveness in which people get away with all sorts of horrible trolling and therefore spoiling the experience for all.
By showing someone that abuse in any form be it sexuality, gender or race based is not acceptable and standing up to that person you chip away at an issue that threatens to push a lot of new gamers out of a game or out of the community as a whole. Plus maybe, just maybe you crack the ice of a cold cold heart and show them the world isn't so bad and that hate isn't the answer. *throws flowers and skips away* |
